Given this assembly, how necessary do you think it is to add horizontal (or diagonal) 1X strapping between the metal and the underlayment?

Aug 2, 2016 · I’m in climate zone 4a. I’m thinking two sheets of 3 or 4″ polyiso foam, taped seams, furring strips and metal roof on top. Would I be better off removing the existing roof down to the decking and adding a peel and stick vapor permeable membrane instead?

Oct 7, 2024 · The metal siding and roofing is going to be 26ga. standing seam. For the horizontal furring I was planning on ripping it to 3" - 4" to give enough area for the standing seam clips to attach to, I think that gives enough extra space around the clips to avoid splitting, etc.

May 29, 2014 · Lets pretend the roof design details are conventional and so the roof deck sheathing will be 5/8" to 3/4". Many metal roofing dealers specify minimum of 7/16" sheathing. Design depends on type of metal roof: exposed or hidden fasteners; board and batten (pan and ridge) panels; shake and shingle panels; panel or tile system; standing seam; etc.
