Dry cut-off blade to replace abrasive wheel
Dry cut saw I have heard that Milwaukee and Dewalt are having problems with the vises on their dry cut saws. Apparently Dewalt uses a different vise than what's on their abrasive saw which is too bad because it's a pretty good set up. I just bought a Evolution Raptor 15" saw. I haven't heard good or bad things about this saw but I decided to ...
Cut-off saw issues - Miller Welding Discussion Forums
Aug 4, 2007 · hi, i have a ridgid chop saw and it had some pretty bad problems, burning the metal, and even burning up the brushes. i asked my salesman from the local welding supply and he put me onto the norzon plus cut-off wheel made by norton abrasives. it is a little expensive, but it outlast the other ones by far. so in the long run it is actually cheaper. give one a try i believe …
setting 45 degrees on metal chop saws?
I have the same problem as KBar, if i want to take a little off it makes for a tough cut because of the blade flex. as for cut angles i use my speed square for 45.s and 90.s. i made several wood templates for other angles on my wood chop saw,in a pinch before i got my metal chop-saw i put a blade on my makita. one cut said i was sorry never again.
Abrasive vs cold cut saw - Miller Welding Discussion Forums
Oct 19, 2011 · The cold saw will not deflect like an abrasive disc will and the result is a 90° cut. No slag to grind off either. No mess of abrasive grit covering everything in the shop. I bought my Makita LC1230 machine 6 or more years ago and am still on the original blade..... You buy a cold cut saw and you are never going to regret it.

Need a speed control to reduce my chopsaw speed.
Porter Cable, Milwaukee, Makita, etc all make cold cut saws designed to operate at the speeds dictated by carbide blades. I understand that Evolution (looks like a Porter Cable) also makes a 14" cold cut saw which Sears sells for in the $270 range. If it is indeed, a rebadged PC, it is a good saw. The cold cut saws are well worth the money.
14" Metal Cutting Blades. - Miller Welding Discussion Forums
For me, Milwaukee blades ($60) didn't do much more than 2-300 cuts on a 8" Metal Saw. They were noticeably duller after 100. Metal Devil blades by Morse did much better on the 8" ($45) than the Milwaukee's. Would be at least 250 cuts before they started cutting badly. I would average at least 300-400 cuts with them in general cutting.
chop saw VS band saw - Miller Welding Discussion Forums
Jun 4, 2004 · A fully equiped shop will have all three. The portable is only as accurate as teh user. Chop saws are quick and dirty and the stationary horizontal band saw can cut while you weld, fit or whatever. For the portable band saw I agree with Hawk; go Milwaukee. I bought mine 24 years ago used before they made the deep throat model.
