Melqart - Coin Talk
Jul 16, 2020 · I recently purchased, and received, a silver tetradrachm of Trajan with Melqart on the reverse, issued in Tyre in 100 AD. Unlike some examples I've seen on which the Hercules connection is carried to the extent of showing Melqart with an enormous, bull-like head and neck, reminiscent of a comic book character, he looks almost "normal" on this coin:
Melqart Shekel of Tyre -vs- Seleucid Tetradrachm from Tyre
Mar 30, 2021 · The article makes me cringe. Next to that they identify this as "Melqart", "According to the expert, this is is an exceptionally rare discovery.". What kind of experts say this is exceptionally rare? Demetrios II and other Seleukid kings who struck the eagle-type are common coins, especially from Tyre, and only hoards of these types were found ...

Two countermarked owls, the Gemini twins and Melqart riding
May 6, 2021 · Again, there is counterstamp centrally located on Athena's cheek. The upper part of the counterstamp is very reminiscent of obverse used on the Tyrian staters, which depict Melqart riding hippocamp right, with ocean waves below. Of course the counterstamp design is very simply engraved, but there is a semblance nonetheless.

Phoenician Tyre – Half Shekel – Lifetime of Christ Issue
Dec 16, 2021 · Just won this at today’s Roma auction. I have a Shekel dated CY 137 which equates to AD 11/12 but, to me, a half shekel lifetime issue seems to be more difficult to find. The metal quality doesn't look brilliant but I really liked the portrait of Melqart which is also well centered even if the reverse is a bit off-centre.

We can watch Trajan age and Melqart-Heracles develop an increasingly tough guy look. Not all of these coins are dated and not all that were are still legible.
