Sep 13, 2014 · The Melges 20 is more sophisticated, MUCH faster, harder to get right, planes in 12 knots vs. 16, and is much more "pro". it's a more fun boat to sail. The J/70 has a more welcoming owner group, is not as fast, easier to sail, and way larger but less "pro" fleets.
