In Greek mythology, the Meleagrids (Ancient Greek: Μελεαγρίδες) are the sisters of the hero Meleager, and daughters of Althaea and Oeneus.

Histomoniasis, also known as blackhead disease, is a parasitic disease found worldwide, caused by the anaerobic protozoan parasite, Histomonas meleagridis. It is characterized by cecal mucosal-to-transmural necrosis with formation of luminal cores.

Mycoplasma meleagridis primarily causes an egg-transmitted infection in turkeys that leads to airsacculitis in the offspring. It does not affect chickens, and control programs have successfully eliminated it from commercial turkey flocks in many countries. Signs include reduced hatchability of eggs and poor poult growth rates.
