The MAS Modèle 36 (also known as the Fusil à répétition 7 mm 5 M. 36[1]) is a military bolt-action rifle. First adopted in 1936 by France and intended to replace the Berthier and Lebel series of service rifles, it saw service long past the World War II period.

The MAS-49 semi-automatic rifle evolved from the prototype MAS-38/39 and from the MAS-40, and lastly from the post-war MAS-44 and its minor variants 44A, 44B and 44C.

Mar 16, 2020 · The CR39 (“crosse repliable”, or folding stock) is the paratrooper version of the MAS 36. The need for a more compact and transportable pattern was recognized almost as soon as the MAS 36 was finalized, originally for paratroops but in practice also for alpine troops.

With an OAL of 40" and an unloaded weight of slightly over 8 lbs., the MAS 36 is 3.2" shorter than the handy-for-its era 1903 Springfield and only half an inch longer than Britain’s SMLE No. 5 Mk 1 “Jungle Carbine.”
