Mary Jo Gygax had a front row seat to the meteoric rise of her ex-husband, E. Gary Gygax, TSR, Inc., and the roleplaying phenomena that swept the world.

Gygax married Mary Jo Powell on September 14, 1958. They had five children together: Ernie, Elise, Heidi, Cindy, and Luke. They became Jehovah's Witnesses, but he eventually left the religion; he remained a Christian, citing his favorite Bible verses of Matthew 5:15–16 a few months before he died. [64]

In 1979 Gary & Mary Jo Gygax moved to this colonial mansion which they named Dragonlands. Here they would raise Heidi, Cindy, and Luke, while Ernie and Elise, being older stayed at the Chapin Road house (#37).
