The Maricoxi were a tribe which was allegedly encountered in the Amazon by explorer Colonel Percy Fawcett. Although he described them as being "hairy as a dog," they also lived in villages and used tools.

Jun 7, 2019 · British explorer Percy Fawcett walked through the rain forests of South America for years, and made notes of the stories he heard about the Maricoxi. These creatures were apparently called Maricoxis by the Maxubis.

Most famously, he claimed to have shot a giant anaconda 62-feet long, but he also encountered the maricoxi, dogs with two noses (possibly double-nosed Andean tiger hounds), the mitla, and the Apazauca spider.
