The Maonan are an ethnic group that lives primarily in a hilly area of Huanjiang and Hechi counties in the northern part Zhuang Autonomous Region in Guangxi and elsewhere in Guangxi and to lesser extent Guizhou Province. They speak a Sino-Tibetan language and live in villages dispersed among those of Yao, Zhuang, Miao and Han.
