Aug 18, 2018 · Along the southeast corner of the green lies Mantua Center Christian Church, with its prominent steeple and distinctive New England-style design. Built in 1840, it is the oldest Disciples of Christ Church in Ohio.

The Mantua Restoration Society seeks to preserve the historic center of Mantua Township. They seek and develop funding to preserve historic buildings and sites, and to refurbish township buildings.

Note #15 - Eunice Sheldon - She was daughter of Elias Harmon; was the first white child born in Mantua and teh second in Portage county. Note #16 - Julia Redfield - Her maiden name was Julia Bartholamew; was widow of H. C. Sheldon previous to her marriage with Redfield.

The township was originally the property of an eastern land company and was surveyed by Daniel ABBOTT, a member of the convention which framed the first Constitution of Ohio. The first man to drive a stake, put up a cabin and settle down to business in Mantua was Abraham HONEY, 1798.
