Nov 21, 2014 · Mandahl Bay and the Mandahl Salt Pond historically has been used by locals and visitors alike for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, fishing, boating, bird watching, picnicking, and simply relaxing. How can those pursuits live side by side with this massive development?

Mandahl Bay is a quiet beach with beatiful views of Hans Lollik Island just off the shore. The beach is partially rocky with a jetty on the eastern side that forms the entrance to the salt pond just behind the beach.

The small tide pools are neat for exploring. The beach and the water area are rocky. The area around the beach is not developed, there are no facilities nearby. People line fish from the rocky shore and man-made rock wall entrance to the nearby lagoon/salt pond.

For generations Mandahl Bay in St. Thomas, USVI has been a beloved destination for families, fishermen, scuba divers, eco-tourists, and locals alike. Major natural attractions include the mangrove ringed lagoon, rich marine life and birds including many endangered species, and some of the most breathtaking unspoiled coral reefs in the world.

The hill has wonderful views of Mandahl Beach below and the salt pond harbor right next to it. To the east you can see Tutu Bay right to the east of the hill and Coral World and Coki Beach in the distance.

Prior to the major alterations that took place at the Bay and salt pond in the late 1960s and early 1970s (these changes are detailed in Sections 1.1 and 2.3)., Mandahl had an integral salt pond of about 15 acres separated from the sea by an approximately 200 foot wide berm with little obvious alteration of the shoreline by any human activities.
