Mana Pools is remote and remains one of the few real wilderness areas left in the world. The name “ Mana ” means “four” in Shona (the local language) and applies to the four pools; Green Pool, Chisasiko, Chine and Long Pool.

Mana Pools National Park is a World Heritage Site based on its pure wilderness and beauty. It is home to a wide range of mammals, over 350 bird species, and aquatic wildlife and is one of the world's wildest and best preserved natural ecological areas.

The Mana Pools offers the possibility of self-drive safaris. The park is situated near the northernmost point of Zimbabwe, close to the Zambian border, about 15 km north of the Harare-Lusaka highway. The nearest towns are Chirundu on the Zambian side and Kariba.
