The Mamanwa language is a Central Philippine language spoken by the Mamanwa people. It is spoken in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte in the Lake Mainit area of Mindanao, Philippines. It had about 5,000 speakers in 1990.

The Mamanwa (variously called Conking, Mamaw, Amamanusa, Manmanua, Mamaua, Mamanwa) are one of the three groups that occupy a very distinct position in Philippine populations. Heretofore, the Mamanwa has been classified as a Negrito subgroup, but physical anthropological data indicate otherwise.

The Mamanwas are the mountain people who are black-skinned, small of frame, kinky-haired, snub-nosed and with black eyes. Generally, they are short with an average height of 1.35 to 1.5 meters. In Mindanao, the Aeta known as the Mamanwa lives in the northeastern provinces of Surigao and Agusan.

Mamanwas worldviews. We accept as Mamanwa scholars that these practices are gradually vanishing but the number who believes of its resurgence for the renaissance of these celebrations are not yet trifling. This paper is the result of the researcher’s extensive study of the group.

The Mamanwa were once considered a Negrito group, but now are thought to comprise an older group entirely distinct from other Filipino populations. Like all Negritos, they have adopted the language of a dominant nearby group. They are concentrated primarily in Kitcharao and Santiago; however, they are quite mobile, and continually relocate.
