May 13, 2016 · The original spec was for Standard, which is Akzidenz Grotesk. (It was sold under that name in the US in the 60s and 70s.) Helvetica has crept in to all MTA signage, and it is often a mishmash of Standard/Akzidenz, Helvetica, and some signmaker's jumbled recreation of one of those. The line numbers, however, have stayed pretty true to Akzidenz.

Jan 28, 2024 · the NYCTA logo from earlier in the 60s is peak. The t and a sort of line up to have the T look like the Bronx and Manhattan that bridges downtown into Brooklyn, and the A looks like Queens and Brooklyn with the top of the a bridging back to midtown.

Jan 1, 2022 · Honestly, I kinda questioned about the Keystone for Long Island as well. I based it off of historical railroad logos, and besides the "current logo" for the Long Island Railroad (it's not even a logo in my opinion, but just an MTA logo with "Long Island Railroad" next to it) the only logo I could find for the LIRR was the subsidy PRR logo that had LIRR on it.

Dec 26, 2019 · The 10 subway, 12 LIRR, 5 MNR, SIR, MTA logo, and E-ZPass logo colors are Pantone spot colors. The robin’s egg blue color for the 2nd Ave lines (T train) was chosen as the 11th subway color, which is the same teal used in the former JFK Express Train.

Mar 26, 2022 · The old "big M" logo is scattered about at several stations besides the ones on Archer Ave and 63rd Street. It's obvious the MTA doesn't really track which stations have those old logos, so they'll stick around until the stations' eventual renovations.
