Conrail's yard slugs, the 4 axle MT4 and 6 axle MT6 were rebuild from ALCO units to perform low speed switching duties. Most of the MT4s were retired by the end of Conrail's era, but, after a truck swap, the MT6s served on for their new owners.

Here's something interesting: the Conrail Historical Society lists #1008 as an MT4: a 4 axle slug, and has images to confirm this. Yet here is #1008 with 6 axles. Did CSX rebuild #1008 into a MT6 or was one of the real MT6's (1100 series numbering) renumbered?

I have not come across any oddball units being wired for "mother" service. Can anybody think of a unit other then a GP10 or SD38 mated to a slug for Conrail?
