MSD blaster coil failures? - Performance Boats Forum
Jul 13, 2008 · I'm on the same msd blaster coil that I started on 8 seasons ago. Never a problem with the coil or the msd 7 marine box. That being said my ultimate goal is a DIS "coil on plug" or a "coil near plug" setup. That will eliminate the distributor and increase the coil charge time by 4x.
MSD Voltage? - Performance Boats Forum
Jan 21, 2011 · The MSD will fire as low as 9 volts. I don't recommend it, but it will run a 12 to 1 engine to 10,000 rpm on 9 volts. With the small red wire, the large red wire, and the ground wire hooked up, and the coil wired up, BUT THE DIZZY UNHOOKED, touch the white wire to the same ground as the box is grounded to and see if the coil sparks.

Mar 2, 2008 · weird issue, just got the motor back in the boat tried to start it and nothing. My setup is a MSD 6AL box, Blaster2 Coil, Pro-Billet Marine Dist. The cap and rotor have one weekend on them and a few driveway runs. MSD unit looks to be getting power, if i …

Mar 6, 2008 · crank the thing over with the coil wire held an inch or so from a ground, like the head, and look at the spark, an MSD will jump an inch in open air with no trouble, hold the wire back a ways from the end or it with bite your ass. The spark should be one really nasty blue streak and even make noise if its full strength.
Eliminating MSD box & converting to HEI | Performance Boats …
Oct 17, 2011 · This makes no sense at all. You MIGHT be able to get the coil to spark by supplying power directly to the positive and applying and removing the ground, but you could never start the engine. The only thing that will fire the coil with a mag pickup is a MSD/Mallory type box or a HEI module. Applying power directly to the coil will do nothing.

Ignition Coils-Anybody have the scoop? - Performance Boats Forum
Aug 28, 2010 · But price isn't what makes it a better pick performance wise. The HVC II 8253 is a great coil. I run it. It will suvive a nuclear blast. It is almost immune to vibration, and can be used in a long endurance, low RPM condition with zero issues. The Pro Power 8201 for the MSD 7 cannot. It is a strctly drag race coil for the MSD 7.

Oct 15, 2012 · 16lbs of boost on a blow thru twin turbo on C-16. Dynoed at 1653 hp. Analog 6aL with a big blue MSD coil. Plugs gapped at 30 thou. Sound wiring and good grounds. 5hrs so far. The coil is the best available from MSD for that box.I am surprised that that I have heard of similar boosted engines on gasoline cant fire above 10 lbs.?
MSD ignition with no alternator.... - Performance Boats Forum
Sep 9, 2008 · An MSD is designed to produce full power sparks with a supply voltage of 10 volts, but if the supply drops below that, ignition output will suffer. An MSD can be used with 16 volt batteries, but no performance gain will occur because the output power of the MSD is regulated. The advantage of a 16 volt battery is increased electrical capacity.
