U.S. Military MRE menus have changed greatly over the past 35 years. Since MRE XIII (1993 Date-of-Pack), 70 new items have been approved as MRE improvements. Fourteen of the least acceptable items were replaced, and the number of menus was increased from 12 to 24. In addition, four vegetarian meals are now included.

Ameriqual finally gets into the civilian MRE market with a very strong product. They offer a decent entree variety and do a good job in varying the spreads, sides, and desserts. The included heater is a big plus. Pros: Lots of food per MRE – almost as many calories as a regular military MRE. Heater included (uses provided salt water packet).

The Eversafe meals contain many of the same components as the military MREs – the entrees, sides, crackers, and desserts are the same (packaging and all) as you’ll find in a military MRE. The accessory packet is just a little different in that it only contains a napkin, spoon, salt, pepper, coffee, and creamer.
