The Mark VI was a British heavy tank project from the First World War. After having made plans for the continued development of the Mark I into the Mark IV, the Tank Supply Committee (the institute planning and controlling British tank production) in December 1916 ordered the design of two new types of tank: the Mark V and the Mark VI.

The Mk VI light tanks went into manufacturing in 1936 and VIC manufacturing ended in 1940. The tanks were in extensive service with the British Army at the beginning of WW2 in 1939, the VIB staying manufactured and employed in the most significant figures.

On 12 May 1941, the Tiger convoy arrived in Alexandria with 238 tanks, including 21 Mark VI Light Tanks, to re-equip the 7th Armoured Division. Many of these newly arrived tanks needed immediate servicing to prepare them for battle and at least eight of the Mark VI vehicles were found to need complete overhauls.
