Nov 24, 2017 · Lead Guy - nice M1s, presumably restored from CMP barreled receivers? (I was able to buy from CMP some of the navy Mod 0/Mod 1 barreled receivers that were offered back in 2012-2013, and restored them, including former Grade B match barreled receiver. I haven't shot them, but they are a near piece of history.

Jan 6, 2020 · Long story short: Back in 2012 CMP got all of 2000 of the leftover barreled actions that were once the Navy's Mk 2 Mod 0/1 rifles, and in those crates were 70 Grade B match rifles in various conditions: 6 mostly complete with stocks 6 with 30-06 barrels, all in poor condition 25 barreled actions with handguards 23 stripped barreled receivers
CMP now allowing M1s in 308W to compete in “as-issued”...
Oct 16, 2024 · Yep, technically the Mk 2 Mod 0/1 Garands were issued to “sailors” - not to “troops.” Fwiw, Jim Adell served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam as a young sailer. He wrote in an GCA article back in 2005 or 2012 that he once used a Navy Mk 2 Mod 1 in a combat situation in Vietnam circa 1971.

Mar 30, 2021 · The Italians didn’t use a chamber insert like the US Navy Mk2 Mod 0. These Type 2 rifles have original .30-06 barrels that were removed and had the chamber shortened. The barrel is 1/2” shorter and so the stock, rear handguard and op rod and spring are shortened. They also have a metal insert in the receiver.

Aug 19, 2022 · My Mark 12 Mod O build is a very accurate rifle which oddly enough prefers AA 2520 and SMK 77 bullets delivering sub moa accuracy at 100 yards. Other powders, bullets give me 1moa or slightly over that.

May 18, 2017 · They are designated: U.S. Navy MK2 MOD 0 and MK2 MOD 1 The MOD 0 has a chamber insert to convert 30.06 to .308. FWIW these inserts some times were ejected with the spent round. The next round of .308 jammed in the chamber. The MOD 1 has a .308 chamber. The MOD 0 usually has a WWII barrel. The MOD 1 has a 7.62X51 barrel Gunny

Mar 20, 2019 · 7.62x51 NATO Naval M1 Garand - YouTube. Yes, the Navy figured that out fairly quickly, the Mod 0 barrel modification was a flawed design, hence the Mk 2 Mod 0 (bushing/insert) to Mk 2 Mod 1 (new barrel) took place fairly quickly.

Jun 5, 2024 · Use was first for special forces. The initial Mk12 Mod 0 used surplus M16 lowers/stocks in inventory. Really one of the first ARs to have a floated handguard and ammo specifically designed for its use. Knights Armament then developed the Mk12 Mod 1 and use spread from special forces and Seals to being issued as a DMR for Marines.
