MH-53J – "Pave Low IIIE (E for Enhanced)" Upgraded MH-53H. Improved variant with integrated digital avionics, an upgraded transmission, more powerful engines, and various enhanced mission and defensive systems.

The MH-53 Pavelow series are advanced helicopters operated by USAF Special Operations Squadrons. The MH-53 Pavelow is based around the HH-53 Jolly Green Giant airframe, with improved armor, avionics, weapons and aerial refueling capabilities.

The MH-53J Pave Low III heavy-lift helicopter is the largest, most powerful and technologically advanced helicopter in the Air Force inventory.

The MH-53 Pave Low is a variant of the US Air Force's Sikorsky HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant and the US Navy's CH-53 Sea Stallion. The MH-53 is used for long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR) and was developed to replace the HH-3 Jolly Green Giant.

The original eight HH-53H’s were the very first U.S. Air Force helicopters modified to become the MH-53J PAVE LOW III. All remaining H-53 B, C, and H models were then modified to the MH-53J model standard.

The Sikorsky MH-53J Pave Low III is an upgraded variant of the MH-53 Pave Low, the helicopter served in the Operation Desert Storm until 2008, when all Pave Low variants were replaced by the V-22 Osprey.

The 20th Special Operations Squadron (20th SOS), located at Hurlburt Field Fla., is one of nine flying squadrons within the 1st Special Operations Wing. Known as the "Green Hornets," the 20th SOS flies the MH-53J/M Pave Low III/IV, the Air Force's most sophisticated helicopter.
