Jun 1, 2018 · The Mk1 ring gear with the front step is an aftermarket ring gear. The OEM original did not have the step+ there isn't a gear tooth lead on the front. I have been driving Mk1 MGB's for more than 50 years and had one worn out ring gear and 1 starter pinion in more than 300K + miles. If you want the high torque starter, flip the ring gear round.

Feb 23, 2021 · The 1974-1/2 and later MGB was designed for the Rover 3.5L V8 which is also the Buick 215. So that engine will go into the later year cars as a direct bolt-in swap. Hard to get simpler than that and the power output is right in your range.
