
Boston Elevated Ry. 5734 - Seashore Trolley Museum
To help mark the 20th anniversary of Boston’s Riverside streetcar line in 1979, Seashore leased No. 5734 to the MBTA (successor to the MTA) for $1 per year. No. 5734 was refurbished by Seashore before moving to the MBTA’s Watertown carhouse.

Boston Elevated Railway
Car 5734, one of the last nine Type 5's, was retired when double ended PCC's were bought from Dallas to cover the three lines that had no turning loops. This is a typical "big city" car designed to move large numbers of people quickly, with its wide aisles, ramped floors and double doors.

In the foreground is a Type 5 "Semiconvertable" trolley No. 5734 bought by the Boston Elevated Railway Co. (BERy). The streetcar was built by Brill in 1924 and ran in service until 1959. Today, it can be found on display at Boylston station.

Metropolitan Transit Authority type 5 streetcar 5734 on the type 5 farewell fantrip rounding the curve from Washington Street to Park Street in Newton. The houses in the background were later demolished to build ramps for the Massachusetts Turnpike extension into Boston. 5734 was subsequently saved for preservation by the Seashore Trolley Museum.
