Az MÁV M61-sorozat a MÁV részére szállított fővonali dízel-villamos erőátvitelű, Co'Co' tengelyelrendezésű dízelmozdony -sorozat. Beceneve „Nohab”, a svéd gyártó, a NOHAB nevéből, ahol a széria gyártáskori típusjele Di.3a volt. A magyar közösségi közlekedés történetében kultikus járműnek számít, az egyik legikonikusabb mozdony.

In 1960, after MÁV had placed a tender for a mainline diesel locomotive, two demonstrators were tested in Hungary. One was a six-axle diesel-hydraulic with 1546 kW nominal output, built by Krauss-Maffei (its four-axle version was already in service at DB as class V200).

The Swedish locomotives were classified by MÁV as type M61 and proved versatile, highly reliable as well as economical to run. Počátkem 60. let vzrostla v Maďarské lidové republice poptávka po výkonných motorových lokomotivách pro vozbu rychlíků a expresů na hlavních neelektrizovaných tratích.

In 1999, a few enthusiasts of NOHAB-GM locomotives (and especially of the M61 class of the Hungarian State Railways – MÁV) got together to set up a foundation devoted to helping these machines on their way to survival.

A Jendrassik féle M601 kudarca után a MÁV úgy döntött külföldről szerzi be nagyteljesítményű dízelmozdonyait. Az 1960-ban kiírt pályázaton a német Krauss-Maffei és svéd NOHAB gyárak is indultak. Végül az egyszerűbb felépítése és olcsóbb fenntartása miatt a NOHAB gyár Di3 sorozata mellett döntöttek és az M61 sorozatszámot kapták.
