Sep 16, 2010 · One can tell a VANOS M62 by the slight "bumps" on the top of the forward part of each bank valve cover. Sorta like an M50 Vanos.

Aug 12, 2019 · If you see the funnel shaped oil separator mounted in the passenger’s side near the firewall then you’ll know it’s most likely an M62TUB44 Vanos engine that’s been modified. If you don’t see the cyclonic separator, then it’s most likely an entirely different pre-Vanos engine.

Mar 23, 2018 · You'll need the timing tools (I recommend the GAS tools, they're much more precise), a crankshaft holding tool, a beefy breaker bar (I use a 3/4" drive breaker bar from HF), a big pipe over the breaker bar for leverage, deep and shallow sockets, torx bits, e-torx sockets, and the Vanos press tool if you're doing the Vanos seals.
