May 25, 2013 · My '98 540i (112k miles, M62 non-vanos) won't pass the CA smog test, pic below. I un-supercharged the car in order to sell it, and it looks like it's running really rich. Acceleration is very strong and it holds a steady idle, and it drove very well up to Bimmerfest last weekend.

Oct 14, 2018 · Besides, the intake side of the M62 is really quite good as it is. The real gains will come from the extremely restrictive exhaust manifolds, which if your 540i is going to be off-road, that would definitely be something to consider.

Hi All! Trying to get my E38 to pass smog, it fails just the 15MPH NOx segment. Passes the 25MPH Section. Failed exactly the same way 3 times. This is with the engine Hot after a long drive. Car has 65,000 original miles. Another symptom the car has always had - when it is cold outside, the engine will rev up/down chasing idle.

I know the engine is M62, but how do I know if it is M62TU? or are they the same thing? I currently have an intermittent (mostly on) CEL. OBDII codes are "Air/Fuel Mixture" and my mechanic says symptoms are classic carbon build-up. Edit: My car has 111,500 miles on it. CEL came on around 95k.
