Apr 23, 2004 · Was the 163 grain AP bullet ever used in the 7.62x51 or was it only for use with the 30/06 round? May have been, but the only current AP cartridge is the one listed in the Ammunition Sheet. The M1 was designed around M1 Ball, a 172gr post WW1 cartridge which replaced .30 M1906 Ball in the 1930s.
