The M44 was an American-made self-propelled 155 mm howitzer based on the M41 Walker Bulldog tank chassis, first introduced in the early 1950s. The M44 was replacing the M41 Howitzer Motor Carriage, derived from the light tank M24 Chaffee. It saw combat in Korea and was well exported to NATO countries.

The M44 is an American tier 6 self-propelled gun. A 155 mm SPG on the chassis of the M41 light tank. The vehicle saw action in the Korean War. In the early 1960s, improved SPGs of this type with rotating turrets were introduced, and the M44 was removed from service.

The M44 was a turret-less SPG howitzer that was mounted in a barbette (protective circular armour feature) superstructure, which could be elevated from -5 to +65 degree’s and traverse 30 degree’s either left or right.
