Jan 19, 2011 · My particular M21 I figured would be doing more shooting inside 600 yards. Conservatively speaking the M21 is not the ultimate 1000yd rifle. 1000yds is pushing it. I thought of the 17x USO, but was reminded of them M40s in the Marine corps I drooled over with just their 10x Unertl optics.

In addition to this cool scope from the Viet Nam era, the barrel appears to be made by Krieger.

It felt so much more substantial when compared to the M16. Jump forward about 35 years and I found a M21 for sale on Gunbroker.

That scope was listed as an M45 scope and it was fit into Unertl Target scope rings. I thought it was a neat idea but questioned how well it could work.
