Jun 9, 2022 · Why it's come to be associated almost exclusively with the m1917a1 is also unclear, though it's interesting to note that the Director of the Infantry School's Department of Experiment, where the bulk of interwar helmet evaluation took place, was Lt. Col. R.H. Kelley.

Aug 8, 2020 · I've been compiling a list of all the Heat Stamp numbers I can find for the M1917 helmet. So far this is what I've been able to find. I've read of a possible W second letter unknown, and a ZL and ZM, but I've yet to see an example of those three. I also don't know of there are additional Z ones. ...

Apr 29, 2017 · I recently picked up an excellent M1917A1 heat lot Number 15B. If I understand production figures correct. McCord was awarded a contract to produce M1917A1 on Nov 27th 1940, and stopped production during May 1941. (Reynosa The M1 Helmet) So does that mean approximately, the approx. Heat lot numbers 7-17B were produced during that time frame.

Question: 1917A1 Kelly Helmet Liner PAD location? - M1917
Jun 27, 2021 · good question. I have my Dad's original M1917A1 issued to him in 1940 when he joined the NY National Guard. Leather thongs attach the pad through the slits. it's been that way since I first found it in the basement in the 1960s.

Nov 25, 2015 · There are a lot of photos of M1917A1's in use by the Navy; not just during WWII but prewar too. That said, yes many were replaced by the M1 by the end of 1942. From what I gather, the helmets seem to have been an limited inventory item until hostilities broke out; then each ship needed more.

Feb 27, 2025 · Nothing to spectacular but my first m1917a1 helmet, the images make it look cleaner than it actually is sadly. A lot of the shell paint has come away leaving a lot of what ever was used to texture it with an original layer of paint sitting underneath. I’m guessing that the porous nature of the te...

Oct 13, 2013 · U.S. with a "W"? Wow that has to be rare indeed. I have ZA, ZD and ZC. I have seen ZJ, ZB etc.most have 2 digit numbers and Iv'e noticed 3 digit numbers that I assume were made later perhaps post WW1. The M1917A1's have 2 digits and a letter for example "19D", that's how I can tell an original M1917A1 from a re-lined M1917 made into a M1917A1.
