Remington percussion revolvers are very accurate and capable of considerable power with muzzle velocities in the range of 550 to 1286+ feet-per-second, depending upon the charge loaded by the shooter. Combustible cartridge velocities averaged from 700 to 900 feet per second (270 m/s), depending on powder quality, charge and conical bullet weight.

Aug 22, 2013 · Up for your consideration is a beautiful Belgian made Lefaucheux M1858 pinfire single action revolver manufactured in the 1860's. These revolvers were primarily used by the French military, and also sold to civilians in single action and double action configuration.

It was this year that a Parisian gunsmith by the name of Casimir Lefaucheux produced the one-part pin-fire cartridge. He patented this new style ammunition that was loosely based on the same principles of Johann Nikolsaus Dreyse's needle gun system.

The 12mm Lefaucheux is a metallic center-fire cartridge. It was originally created as a rimless pinfire cartridge using black powder employed by the French navy on the Lefaucheux M1858 revolver. Later it was adapted to a center-fire cartridge by the French Army in 1873 for use on the MAS 1873 revolver.
