Jan 13, 2018 · what makes the the proa so different from the monohull is that when dipping the lug you're working from the front/luff of the sail, not the leach as you would be in a monohull, it should be much easier to dip the sail.

Jun 28, 2007 · With a well-made sail, the lug will point fine, and carries it's area lower than a triangular sail of equal area. Plus it reefs with better geometry -- the center of effort doesn't move forward. Also, it's easy to make up one where all the spars fit inside the boat.

Scaling up to a larger proa might be easier if it is a schooner. The idea is that it allows for a central, non moving mast. Easy to reef and a variety of positions and height options - depending on conditions.
