
Understanding GFR and kidney disease: What's normal?
Sep 23, 2020 · June 2020 GFR 48. Was not given any thing other than water daily excersise and reduce alcohol. After research on ckd it looks very serious. Called doc back few days after appt for more info. Came with plant based low protein diet. Ordered some cookbooks and cobbled together what I called kidney diet. Follow up blood work now showed GFR 60!!!

Oct 21, 2019 · My GFR hovers around 57-58. I had a nephrectomy May 2019 for renal cell carcinoma. I still don’t have the energy level I had prior to surgery. It’s been 5 months and my doctor said my energy level would be back but couldn’t say when. I have always been very active. I work full time. I have a very active dog.
How does GFR move up and down so dramatically?
Jun 1, 2023 · Hello! I've been reading many posts saying GFR has improved pretty dramatically. I was told kidneys do not repair themselves or get better. I have a good diet (for almost 10 years), being healthy, and exercising. My weight is 133 lbs. Other bloodwork is normal, sodium, potassium, CO2, cholesterol...all normal. But my GFR continues to go down.

Dec 28, 2024 · In my situation a GFR of 52 is pretty good. Hydration an increase it. Mine goes down as low as 36. A different eGFR called Cystatin C has been more accurate and more positive for me since the usual creatinine-based GFR is affected by hydration, muscle loss, blood pressure, heart function and other factors.

The speed of the reduction is interesting and your doctor is proactive on your behalf. Supplements can greatly affect GFR rates, especially the B vitamins, vitamin D and minerals too.

Sep 20, 2023 · He's been doing well but out of nowhere his GFR dropped from 54 to 29 in the space of 6 weeks, then rebounded up to 46, then back down to 36 in a week, then back to 46 last week. His creatinine has been anywhere from 2.2 to 1.8 during that time, and his potassium skyrocketed to 5.9 (is now down to 4.6).

Jul 9, 2023 · I would agree the two major elements to my success in raising my GFR is diet and exercise. My diet is low in sodium, sugar, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. That means focusing on foods that are high quality proteins such as vegetables, fruit, poultry and fish. I usually cook everything myself to control seasoning ingredients.

Sep 5, 2022 · My GFR went low , but the matching creatnine didn't change. I ended up going to a kidney doctor and they say I am pretty much fine--but they felt that the main issue was not the NSAIDs I take, but that I am dehydrated. I am supposed to drink a lot more water.
