I am originally from Olympia, WA. I grew up in a very classical music-friendly household, and began studying piano at the age of four. I later fell in love with the sound of the oboe, so I began lessons and joined band in sixth grade. Not long after, I joined the local youth symphony, where I also fell in love with playing in orchestra.

Oboes are usually made of wood, but may also be made of synthetic materials, such as plastic, resin, or hybrid composites. The most common type of oboe, the soprano oboe pitched in C, measures roughly 65 cm (251⁄2 in) long and has metal keys, a conical bore and a flared bell.
