Loimwe Protected Area is a protected area in Myanmar 's Shan State, covering 41.35 km 2 (15.97 sq mi). [1] It ranges in elevation from 925 to 1,920 m (3,035 to 6,299 ft) and harbours dry hill forest interspersed with pine trees.

Jan 7, 2016 · Loi-Mwe, translating to “misty mountain”, is a 1600m high plateau about 30km away from Kengtung. The British military installed a second class hill station here. Up to today, several decaying colonial buildings are reminiscent of the colonial era.

Feb 1, 2020 · High in the hills roughly a two hour drive from Kyaing Tong, Loimwe once boasted 100 ornate colonial buildings. Today only a handful of these buildings remain as brick by brick poverty-stricken locals dismantled them.

Loi Mwe (Burmese: လွိုင်မွေ, Lwaingmwei) is a hill station in far eastern Myanmar. It is located in Kengtung District of Shan State, just south of the city of Kengtung. It is situated atop a mountain near the road that connects Kengtung to Tachileik. It was built by the British to house colonial administrators of the Shan states.

Take in some spectacular countryside at high altitude – 1700 metres above sea level, to be exact – and get some fresh mountain air as you trek out among the hills to some ethnic villages close by. Admire the colourful garb and fascinating customs practised by the local people.

Loimwe, 38 km to the east from Kyaing Tong, was the seat of the British District Commissioner during the colonial period. This ‘hill station’ features a number of old colonial buildings and a century-old Catholic church.

However, the greatest attraction is the landscape on the ascent towards Loimwe. You will pass through forests, terraced rice fields and a lake. You will make several stops on the way to Loimwe to visit different villages.
