Lizard Head lies 2.84 mi (4.57 km) northwest of Colorado State Highway 145 at Lizard Head Pass. Lizards Head Trail climbs west from Trout Lake along Black Face Mountain ridge and past the south face of Lizard Head toward Wilson Peak.

Mar 7, 2025 · Head up to the ridge, and you can take the short detour out onto Lizard Head Rock. Then traverse along the south side of the ridge to reach a saddle. A few class 3 moves will get you onto the summit plateau, then its a class 2 walk to the summit. Amazing views. Very easy route. None needed.

Keep your wits about you and look for the easiest, marked trail. At the top, you'll veer right and make it to the top of the head. The actual lizard head formation is not for the faint of heart...but, you can still get to the "body" and have an amazing view.

Although lacking in shear quantity of climbs, this wall does offer the climber a couple quality crack lines as well as an absolutely delightful slab climb. You will almost certainly be guaranteed solitude as well. We followed the approch to Altered States Gully which included finding a cairn about 100 feet to the east of the church archives road.
