Aug 26, 2011 · I need to access the desktop via the cd command. I have tried: cd /desktop cd /home/desktop cd home/chris/desktop cd /chris/desktop cd desktop And some other combinations. I get the following response: bash: cd: home/chris/desktop: Not a directory Can anyone explain to me what is going on, please? Thanks, Chris

May 16, 2010 · Now I could do a copy and paste using the mouse but that wouldn't let me learn anything more about Ubuntu. I reckon knowing how to move around my computer using paths is going to be fundamental in using Linux, and Ubuntu in particular. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. regards brawd

Sep 29, 2012 · I install the CD and hit F12 and...hang, cursor-blink. I.e., I put in Ubuntu CD in the DVD/CD drive, turn on the power, hit F12, and I see a little person icon and I think a keyboard at the bottom of a screen that I think is Ubuntu trying to boot. Then the screen goes blank with a cursor blinking, and that's all that ever happens.

Sep 29, 2023 · did not include a command (no CD to change directory in front of it), and you didn't use the ~ to refer to a directory (you'll note I separated it above with a `/`) and used it in a location where it makes sense (your usage had it at the end, so your directory would have been expanded to .minecraft~ off the / or root directory with the directory named ".minecraft~" and not .minecraft.
