Dec 11, 2020 · I always interpreted that Levi smile as him being finally able to "move on" from the pain of abandonment. I imagined Levi thinking that he wasn't good enough for his "father" hence the abandonment.

He just experienced complete annihilation of the survey corps including its leader who he followed for years, Hange is the only one left of the old survey corps. Eren & co were in it for just a few months.
