Lady Shug is a member of the Dine (Navajo) Tribe . Shug lives in New Mexico and is fighting for equal rights as an activist for 2SLGBT+ indigenous relatives, to create equal rights in rural areas and reservations that do not normally protect those on indigenous lands.

Lady Shug is a Diné (Navajo) nonbinary drag queen who was crowned Miss New Mexico Pride 2016. She has appeared on the HBO series We're Here . [5] She also educates healthcare providers in New Mexico and Arizona on being respectful to transgender and nonbinary people.
