Whats the difference between a Vortec 350 and a LT1 350?
Oct 26, 2004 · The LT1 was made to go fast, it has a different powerband than that of the 350 vortec. The vortec is setup to get maximun ammout of torque at a lower engine speed(duh, its built for a heavy truck & for towing you need low end torque to get the weight moving), which gives it the lower HP rating.(high HP ratings come from

Apr 23, 2006 · Eh, get a cheaper 89-95 350 and slap a set of trickflow or if you are on the cheap you can probiably modify a set of LT1 heads to work or get a set of L98 heads. Don't even deal with the opti. Throw a miniram on a 350 and away you go.
LT1 vs 350 Tpi - S-10 Forum
Nov 6, 2008 · the stock tpi doesnt even flow enough for a stock 350. the l98 heads are a great casting and almost identical to the lt1 castings (tpi vette heads are aluminum, camaro/vette lt1 heads are aluminum) the tpi can be ported to flow very good in stock form as there is some major blockages in the plenum. lt1's are a little weaker on the lower end but ...

Dec 19, 2005 · As mentioned, the waterpump is a bit freaky. The balancer on an older 350 will protrude a bit more than an LT1. Also, don't forget than an older 350 will have a distributor in the back of the motor that has to clear the firewall where the LT1 won't. Other than that, everything else is pretty much the same on the outside.

built 350 w/carb or stock LT1....which is faster? - S-10 Forum
Oct 20, 2005 · as far as specs are thrown around, the base lt1 was 260 hp, the aluminum headed f-bodies threw down 300 hp and the vette motors ran 330 at the flywheel in stock trim. thats a far cry from the smog era 350's that put out a whopping 170 hp at the flywheel. i agree, the block doesn't matter anymore. its how you build it.
what do i need to convert to a lt1 - S-10 Forum
Nov 12, 2009 · the crank rods pistons will fit in a LT1 that is the only thing that transfers, but the LT1 will have better pistons and rods. They have stronger rods and light weight no skirt pistons. dont worry about the LT1. no use in going with that technology, the opti spark has its fail rate. You can turn your eng into a vortec just by adding the vortec ...

Aug 2, 2006 · the LT1 i had lined up was 1k for the motor, trans and ecm. I looked into the 5.3, cheapest i found for motor alone was 1200. Parts for the LT1 seem to be on par pricewise with other motors i looked into, atleast on the performance end. With the guy you spoke with was his only concern the cost or was there other factors to make him want a 5.3 swap?
