A low-pressure dosing system (LPD) treats wastewater then pumps it into the soil several times daily. Of the nonstandard drain fields, it is the least expensive to install and operate. The system generally has three components: A series of tanks or compartmented tanks used to settle out and partially treat the wastewater

Quite the opposite for LPD, Drain tapping installed at the lowest point of a piping system is called Low point drain.

Two general categories of low-pressure drainfields (LPD) are recognized based upon the strength of wastewater being dosed: low-pressure pipe (LPP) and shallow narrow drainfields. LPP is typically installed in a trench and the pipe is supported by stone or other material.

While standard (conventional) and aerobic systems are most common septic systems in the San Antonio area, Low Pressure Dosing (LPD) systems can be a good alternative if your property’s soil has clay or not enough soil suitable to more traditional systems.

Originating in North Carolina and Wisconsin, a LPP system is a shallow, pressure-dosed soil absorption system with a network of small diameter perforated pipes placed 25.4 to 45.7 cm (10 to 18 inches) deep in narrow trenches, 30.5 to 45.7 cm (12 to 18 inches) wide.

First, the waste is collected in the house, through a series of pipes, then collected into a single pipe outside the home into a collection tank (septic tank) . In a conventional, ground-disposal type system, this is often a two-compartment septic tank.

Low Pressure Pipe (LPP) The typical low-pressure pipe drainfield consists of a pressure manifold and trenches (although a bed-type configuration may be used). The laterals, usually 1¼- to 2-inch diameter PVC pipes, are surrounded by washed stone, gravel, plastic chambers, slotted irrigation pipe, or synthetic media placed in the trench.

Low-pressure distribution of effluent in small diameter, perforated laterals has become a popular design alternative for achieving uniform distribution. Over 2,000 low-pressure pipe systems are now in use at single-family homes in North Carolina.

The system includes a 1500 Gallon Infiltrator Septic Tank, a 1000 Gallon Fiberglass Pump Station with Dosing Controls, and Infiltrator Lateral Lines with a LPP (Low Pressure Pipe) System. This system is scheduled to dose periodically throughout the day.

The Dosing component of LPD's is very powerful. Traditionally, when water was used in the home, the water slowly trickled out into the drain field over the next 30-45 minutes, and because of this tended to migrate to the same spot in the drain field.
