LNER Class Y11 was a class of three petrol powered 0-4-0 locomotives built by Motor Rail & Tram Car Company Limited under their Simplex brand and introduced in the years 1919–1925.

The Z6 / Y11 Petrol Shunting Locomotives These three Simplex four-wheel petrol engines were originally given the classification of Z6 but were redesignated as Y11 in 1943. After World War 1, a number of railways purchased these small Simplex engines for light shunting work.

Note: The LNER's petrol shunters were initially unclassified. When they were allocated a class number in the 1940s, it was 'Y11' in the steam locomotive class series. Similarly, the diesel electric shunters were initially allocated 'J45', being reclassified 'DES1' from September 1945.

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) produced several classes of locomotive, mostly to the designs of Nigel Gresley, characterised by a three-cylinder layout with a parallel boiler and round-topped firebox.

In 1927, the Z classes were re-arranged, so that Z only referred to locomotives of the 0-4-2 arrangement. The GER 0-6-0T cranes were allocated to the class J92, whilst the smaller of the two GNSR 0-4-2 classes became the Z4 class. The Z6 Simplexes were reclassified as Y11.
