The Tennant J74 (NER Class 8) 0-6-0 Tank Engines. McDonnell's resignation in September 1884 forced the North Eastern Railway (NER) to form a 'caretaker' Locomotive Committee chaired by Henry Tennant to handle the duties of a Locomotive Superintendent.

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) J94 Class is a class of steam locomotive that was formed when 75 former "Austerity" 0-6-0STs were purchased by the LNER in 1946 from the War Department.

They passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the grouping, and received the LNER classification J70. The locomotives had 12-by-15-inch (305 mm × 381 mm) outside cylinders driving 3-foot-1-inch (0.940 m) wheels, all enclosed by skirting. They were the first locomotives on the Great Eastern to use Walschaerts valve gear. [2] .

The North Eastern Railway Class E1, classified as Class J72 by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), is a class of small 0-6-0 T steam locomotives designed by Wilson Worsdell for shunting. They had inside cylinders and Stephenson valve gear.

Apr 22, 2022 · Class 8: 1885: LNER J74 According to Hoole (pp. 15-16) eight small 0-6-0Ts were constructed for shunting. These incorporated the cylinders and boilers on order for further McDonnell 4-4-0s.

Vincent Raven was the last Chief Mechanical Engineer of the North Eastern Railway. Rebuilt as 4-6-2T (1931–36), became LNER Class A8. Three-cylinder simple. Continuation of W. Worsdell design. Another 10 built by the LNER in 1923. All built for 1500 V DC overhead supply, except where noted. 600 V DC. For Newcastle Quayside branch.
