Jun 6, 2008 · The London and North Eastern Railway LNER Gresley Classes A1 and A3 locomotives represented two distinct stages in the history of the British 4-6-2 "Pacific" steam locomotives designed by Nigel Gresley.

This group is about the LNER V2 No. 4471 Green Arrow who is the only surviving member of his class with the rest all being scrapped.

They were designed to haul the fastest and heaviest trains on the LNER. The first two engines appeared from Doncaster works as GNR locomotives 1470 and 1471 (later 4470 and 4471 and then BR 60113 and 60102) and they were originally classified as A1 engines.

A1 No 4471 Sir Frederick Banbury is near Brookmans Park in 1937 with the Down Yorkshire Pullman. Now made up to nine cars, mostly 8w but heavy 12w brake ends remained , the leading one for Harrogate and another further back in the Halifax portion.
