41241 is an LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T that was built at Crewe Works in September 1949. [1] It is one of four members of the class left in preservation but one of only two that is located on the mainland (the other locomotive being 41312); the other pair being located on the Isle of Wight.

These 2-6-2T engines were completely different from previous 2-6-2Ts on the LMS (the 40071 and 40001 classes), being smaller and more compact.

With their footplate raised over the cylinders, small boiler and cab doors cut into the roof these locos, and their tendered sisters the Ivatt 2MT Moguls, were easily recognised.

(George) Ivatt for work on secondary and branch line duties. Locomotives of this class were often referred to as a "Mickey Mouse". It is a 2-6-0 ' Mogul ', rated 2MT by BR following nationalisation.
