LMS 2271 was one of the last four engines built for the North Staffordshire Railway at Stoke Works, and which actually did not appear until after the Grouping, in the early months of 1923.

NSR No 2 was one of the five "New L" locos sold to Manchester Collieries in Walkden by the LMS in October 1937 under its LMS identity of 2271. The loco was named "Princess" in 1938, and was eventually rebuilt with a new saturated boiler plus new tanks, bunker and cylinders in 1946.

Taken from a print in my collection, no further details known. NSR New L class, built at Stoke entering service February 1923. Later LMS 2271. Sold October 1937 to Manchester Collieries, Walkden PRINCESS. to NCB January 1st 1947. Overhauled in 1964 and repainted as NSR 2using parts for NSR 72/LMS 2262. Withdrawn for preservation August 1965.
