As I perceive it, it depends on which military and in which period you are looking at. In WW2 the German military used the LMG designation to refer to either the MG-34 or the MG-42 carried by one man with an assistant gunner. They then used HMG to refer to a tripod mounted gun, again either the 34 or 42. I don’t think they used the term MMG.

Oct 30, 2020 · LMG has 5.56 and HMG has 7.62 the only time where this is different is in MEA where LMG gets 7.62 aswell. Higher caliber, means higher damage. Length still matters (for example PKM has x54 and all other HMGs have x51) but caliber is deciding factor. Generally if you can pick, always pick HMG.

Oct 20, 2022 · LMGs are generally inferior to an assault rifle of the same quality. Technically the LMG will perform better at short range (12 tiles) at excellent and above but the difference is tiny (it maxes at 104% of the AR's DPS at legendary) and its still significantly worse at all other ranges. The stopping power boost isn't enough to help.

May 1, 2022 · The smaller rounds fired by LMG's are considered "small" rounds. The 7.62x54 is the "full size rifle round" versus the small 5.56. Comparing the HMG and the MG against medium target the MG is just as good or even better than the HMG. Even though the MG doesn’t have as much armor pen and dmg, it is probably more time efficient than the HMG since you miss less with the third person ADS , and you don’t run out of bullets after killing 3 or 4 devastators.

The HMG has the same penetration as the AMR, autocannon and lasercannon. I.e., it can damage hulks through the visor or shoot through the main body on striders, for example. Of course, this also in turn means that it likely carries more damage through what the community dubbed "medium armor", like for example Bile Spewers or devastator chests ...

Mar 2, 2023 · HMGs tend to just be better overall, and not just because of the increased damage output and ability to pierce light armor. The increased range you're able to move the HMG around with makes it so much better. The LMG has such a low movement range that makes it so easy to flank and not really worth building.
