In late August 1970, the first GTR XU-1 Torana, was developed by Holden with Harry Firth of the Holden Dealer Team. The GTR XU-1 was made for both competition in popular Series Production racing series in Australia, and in off-road rallying.

Oct 29, 2016 · Enter the LC Torana GTR. The GTR was released in October 1969 as part of the six-cylinder Torana range. It used the 2.6-litre ‘161’ engine normally found in base-model Holden Belmonts but with a modified cylinder head, camshaft, exhaust and dual-throat carburettor.

The Holden Torana GTR XU-1 is an easy car to drive (if you let it know who's boss) and the tremendous low-down torque and acceleration make it a lot of fun in traffic carve-ups. But now, the NSW Police have caught on to it, and they're using XU-l's in ordinary old GTR bodies with a couple of driving lights.
