Kyneton (/ ˈkaɪntən / KYNE-tən) [2] is a town in the Macedon Ranges region of central Victoria, Australia. The Calder Freeway bypasses Kyneton to the north and east. The town has three main streets: Mollison Street, Piper Street and High Street. Piper Street has the oldest streetscape of these, and still has many of its original buildings.

In 1860 the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition camped just to the north of the township and the only survivor, John King was regaled at a local hotel on his return trip. On the literary front, early Australian novelist, Joseph Furphy, lived at Kyneton as a teenager.

Kyneton became the chief agricultural town of the State and the large stone flour mills still standing in the district bear witness to its importance as a wheat growing centre.
