The Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV) is an enhanced version of, and a replacement for, the older Outer Tactical Vest (OTV) component of the Interceptor multi-threat body armor system, as fielded by the United States Army beginning in the mid-2000s.

They're on every packing list, but I can't ever remember having to wear the collar/yoke, groin and kidney flaps, the deltoid protectors, or the pelvic blast diaper thing.

Please be aware that some products sold online called kidney guards/shields/protectors are made to protect the native kidneys and designed to be worn with the padding on the back instead of the lower abdomen.
