Khanbaliq was the Mongolian capital of China built by Kublai Khan when he moved the seat of his government from Kharakhorum. It is the name by which modern day Beijing was known during the time of the Great Khanate.

It was a war of succession fought between the forces based in the Yuan capital Khanbaliq (Dadu, modern Beijing) and the forces based in the summer capital Shangdu after the death of Yuan emperor Yesün Temür in Shangdu.
